Mural in an old farmhouse
Together with Susan Mertens we made this mural for residents of an old farmhouse in Batenburg (NL). Seven meters high, full of all kinds of personal fragments from their lives. For example, how they got to know each other and what they experienced together.

For 'ZOZ magazine' we created icons to illustrate SVRZ's mission in the magazine.

Hogeschool Utrecht (HU) asked us to develop icons for their internal communication. A nice project; we chose to design them in a style which is solid but playful at the same time.

What would the impact be if video were used more frequently for educational purposes, such as for sharing knowledge in the healthcare industry? Mediasite organised a conference around this theme, and asked us to design a visual identity concept that could be used for both print and animation.
The primary image in the identity is based on an ecosystem: a circle in which every change has an influence on something else – just as it does within an organisation. These icons are all part of the same (health care) system.

UEBT (Union for ethical biotrade) asked us to visualize their 7 principles for ethical sourcing for companies using natural ingredients. UEBT standards are used to independently check that good practices are systemically applied.
Besides the programme brochures we developed this series of icons to help provide quick insight into the facts and figures related to studying at Wageningen University & Research.

De Vindplaats // DOK Delft
‘De Vindplaats’ is a place for children with learning difficulties, to learn how to read and write in a playful way. Subsoda was asked to design their identity. We illustrated their vision for their window display.

The library DOK in Delft created the so-called ‘e-bar’. A place where library visitors are introduced to and make use of five different types of tablets and e-readers.
To brighten up the bar, we illustrated a story about reading and writing through the ages. This abstract story is printed on a white decal, measuring 400x50 cm, and attached underneath the glass surface of the e-bar.
If you like to see the whole illustration watch the movie.
We also took care of the small signs providing information about the tablets.

Zo vanzelf
Zo Vanzelf is a graphic novel about the people you meet on the street. And in particular, those short, seemingly superficial conversations that can have more impact than you expected.
In the book, we visualised the kind of flow you can experience as you meet people when you’re on the go. The main character is a small, old man.
This illustration shows a blend of Utrecht’s noteworthy architecture, and tells the story of a man in a wheelchair who drove, lived, and died within the city landscape. Made for De Inktpot magazine .
We have added some details of the illustration.
Stichting De Inktpot commissioned a bunch of different illustrators to develop a panorama of Utrecht. They wanted to offer an illustrated impression of the city as it is today. For our piece of the panorama, we drew the city centre side of Utrecht from the perspective of the canal that surrounds it. We did the part that includes the old prison, ‘De Vrije Wolf’, where we have our studio.
In Lepelenburg park, you can see the old illustration that Jan Bos made in 1859, right next to the new one made in 2017. You’ll find the illustrations surrounding the music kiosk. > We'll post some photos of it soon.

For a birthcard of Jessy’s daughter and son, we have presented them in full size (1:1), drawn on a poster. A sober and intimate portrait. Later we made two for a friend who loved this concept.
Companies fish from the pond of young talents. A cultivated pond of the next generation full of expectations. What does the future bring them and do they feel like a fish in the water?

While we draw, people talk, or do other stuff.
We take on the challenge of ‘live illustration’ during a presentation, a brainstorm session - visualising ideas-, drawing people and situations at a party or during a festival or symposium. It adds some flavour and value to your event. Afterwards you can send, for example, a thank you postcard that features the final illustration.

There’s no better networking dinner in Utrecht than Het Utrecht Diner. And we were asked to design the menu for the big event. We chose the most well known symbol in the city: the Dom tower. We designed 20 different illustrations in total, and each one depicted the Dom in the same size. This added a special (networking) function to the menus: attendees could split their Dom into fours, and trade the pieces with tablemates. Together, they all developed new creations from the pieces.
In addition, we created a bidder’s card out of part of the menu, which participants used for the auction that took place later in the evening.
